Hi Jo, where have the years gone? I'm still here in Spencer MA. I've got 4 grandchildren and a 5th on the way. My youngest daughter Laura is having her first baby in July.I'm still married (38 years) and we are both looking forward to retirement I'm still working at Norton Company in Worcester and plan on retiring next October. I started snow skiing a couple of years ago and love it. I run a tennis league and play once or twice a week. Drop me a note if you have some free time. How is Jeff, Jane and Jonathan doing. My Dad passed away in 1987 and my Mom is doing fine. She still lives in the same house in Grafton, she'll be 87 this August.

I was doing a search for Zonkeraz and have come across your site numerous times. I, along with many good friends from the past, used to follow Zonkeraz in Worcester, MA. over 30 years ago. I still have my old Zonkaraz Album (vinyl), which I have copied onto my iPod. People at the gym sometimes wonder why I get this big grin on my face, it's because a Zonkaraz song has just come on. I certainly hope that there is plenty of warning when the next reunion show is planned so that I can make it up to New England from the DC area to see you guys again.

My family and I were just over in Sanibel Island on vacation for the past week, and I tried to call you as I knew you lived in FT.Meyers Beach. We had no luck finding a phone number for you or Mark from information, or on the internet. I was dissapointed and wanted to get together with you after all these years. I'm back in Orlando now(home), and took a shot at going on line again, and came across all of this great stuff about you and your music and career. So, I am listening to "Natural Girl" that you sent me, and remembering about all the old times "back in the day", with Zonkaraz, the farm, your beautiful sweet voice, all of it. I must admit, there are some lapses, but most of it is pretty clear. From reading everything on your website, it's obvious that you have done what you've wanted to in the music world. How great for you! I would really love to see you! I'm married to Mark also, and have 2 boys -age 19 and 21, both attending Florida State University. I am an RN, and work at a Nursing Home doing something like case management. I really love working with the elderly, and the job suits me. (Who knew?) How many children do you have? Joanne, I went to high school with you, my last name was Simmler, Jay & Bob, my brothers. Congratulations on doing so well with your music. My sister-in-law sent me a Zonkeraz CD for Christmas, I just listened to it yesterday,loved it. How lucky of you to be living in FL for so long, in 2 weeks we are moving to the Atlantic side, Delray Beach, a long awaited move. We actually vacationed for many yrs. in Sanibel. There is or was a musician we used loved to go see on Captiva named Danny Morgan...you are probably familar with him. Continued good luck, I am going to purchase your new CD.

Hi Joanne - I know you don't know me, but I used come out to the Last Chance Saloon (too many years ago) on Monday nights and other haunts as well to hear Zonkaraz play. Great times - I came to First Night in Worcester this year to hear you as well. There was mention of Zonkaraz getting together again in the fall in the Worcester area for another concert. Guess what? It's fall now. Just wondering if there was any truth to that rumor.....and if so - do you have any info? Always love hearing your songs and you sing. Thanks. Ann (Gwyther)

Great reunion at 1st night. Was a great time. Was nice to see the old gang, Rhonda and friends. My sister and I followed Zonkaraz for years. Went everwhere to see you, from the Blueplate to the Airport, Last Chance, Morgan's Cove,Simeon's, Red Barn and the Grafton Inn. We even went to see the band at some dive in Webster once where Paul and Walter had to help me out when a fight broke out. We saw you at all the reunions, Gilrein's, Worc Center with both Nancy and you, Institute Park and some dumpy club off of Gold Star Boulevard. A lot of great memories. My sister is now in San Diego and I had my cell phone on during 1st night so she could hear you! She wants to come back to Worcester for the next reunion in the fall. Be sure to let me know when it is so we can make plans. Wishing you and yours all the best for the new year!

When I read about Zonkaraz playing on First Night in Worcester the memories kicked in. Tiny (great guy,miss him) working the door at the Blue Plate. The floor moving up and down with everyone dancing and having a great time with Zonkaraz. I had to see the show at WPI.
Then I started thinking. Everytime I was at the Plate listening to you guys I was all liquored up etc. etc. Did I just think you were good because of the partying?
I've been clean and sober for 18 years now. I went and saw both shows. It felt like way back when. I loved it, you guys were great! I know Spider was there in spirit, he wouldn't have missed it, great guy,miss him too.
Please let me know when the next show is. I'll be there. Thanks again. Have a healthy and prosperous "New Year"

1st Night Worcester. Beautiful. I have guarded my original LP of Driving purchased in 1980 as a link to the past: Nights @ the Blue Plate. Experiencing Zonkaraz in concert again was a wish come true and a trip back to my youth. Thank you for the journey.

I fondly remember Sunday nights listening to Zonkaraz at the Blue Plate as one of the highlights of my life as a twenty something. And my buddies and I all had the biggest crush on Joanne Barnard! The song I remember best was about "A Cuban love affair that happened in Miami". I've really enjoyed seeing Walter and Valerie Crockett perform in recent years as they capture some of the old good time feelings I associate with Zonkaraz. I'm totally bummed out that I can't make it to the reunion show at First Night. I hope there will be other chances to see the old band in the future. If there is, or will be, a list of people to be notified of future gigs, please add my name to it.

Hello, Joanne, I do not know why, but I started having rememberances of all the great times I had going to Zonkaraz gigs in Worcester. I must have been to about 200 of them at the myriad of venues in Worcester county.
I was in a Trader Joe store in Acton MA a few weeks ago and I passed a woman, we both smiled with that faint smile of recognition, I am sure it was Kim, (ex-Porter), I have not seen Rick or anyone else, since the 70's

I found your CD on the back seat of my 80 year old parents car when we went to pick it up from the Red Coconut. On a lark I popped it into the CD player and was blown away! Natural Girl is great!

There must be something in the stars because about the same time as JJT stumbled across his old bumpers stickers, I was stumbling across my old Zonkaraz T-shirt. It got me remembering those great times and great music. I just wish I could get copies of some of the Zonkaraz tunes.
Jo, I remember many evenings at the Blue Plate and other venues around Worcester where your voice and the music of the guys seemed to lift me to another plane. If you, or anyone else could put me in touch with some of that music I would greatly appreciate it.

Seems these 'Commosse' tapes are from when
U (Jo) stayed at his house in Auburn, MA.,
and you stored your stuff there. Louie (or his henchmen) went into your personal
belongings, and copied these tapes. I then scoffed them from Dean Haas, who
was Louie's friend. The sound quality
is bad, but I don't know of any other
tapes of "Lady of the night" or "Dogs"
are around. I have had these tapes for
decades, they traveled from here to (gulp)Ellendale ND, and with me as I worked for
Peavey in Meridian, MS. I got to, this
week, transfer them to CD. B4 they go away. The Shades, 2. I recorded them in Boston, and own the master tapes.
GREAT times... Who owns the rights to these tape now? Iwant 2 know...

band stuff. Seems there is a tape
of old DEMOS you all did, with
early versions of 'Dogs' on it.

I am from Paxton Mass. and moved to Florida with my wife and 3 kids (now all grown up)
We used to go to your gigs at the Sir Morgan Cove and the Blue Plate.
I always enjoyed your music and lived for the party! drank many of drinks and joints in the parking lots during the breaks!!

I sent Bill Morris a live Zonkeraz tape recorded at Sir Morgan's Cove in Worcester, circa early '70's. He's going to do some digital stuf to it. It's been with me for about 30 years, helping to keep me sane. I'll get it to you when it's done.

Yes, it's great to reconnect after - thirty or so years of looking back at the best time of my life in Worcester, Ma, my hometown. Recently, I ran into two other "Worcesterites," out here in Southern California. It seems that we all felt the same way about our experiences with the great music scene of our youth. For me, it was Joanne Barnard List fronting Zonkeraz and all the wonderful people who came out regularly and became part of my "family" during those otherwise cold and lonely years.
Thanks for bringing light, love, and happiness into my life those years Jo!
